InterGeo Essen 2022 is a leading Geospatial Information Technology exhibition with a wide range of all kinds of applications in which photogrammetry plays an important role. Technological trends, positioning technologies, drones, surveyors and a variety of scanning techniques were presented here. Some 450 national and international companies were present with their latest insights in the field of (geo)innovations. The visit was felt to be very informative, with additional insights useful for our project.
One such insight relates to the Industrial Metaverse, one of the prominent items during the fair. Consequently, this trend was frequently discussed during lectures by various parties. Besides the many commercial parties at the fair, there are also open-source applications that will strengthen future opportunities such as data visualisation, measurement techniques and immersive applications complemented by collaborative capabilities the photogrammetric sector in future.
Photogrammetric applications in the future will be a starting point of a Digital Twin enriched with all possible data that will accelerate and improve processes. The example often given here is that of a port or airport terminal where real-time data is visualised, such as outgoing and incoming parties, but also movements of visitors and any calamities. A visualised overview is of great value for decisions that need to be taken ad hoc or to deploy staff in a more targeted way, for instance. So we made contact with the open source platform Bentley, which gave an interesting demonstration on data visualisation and the intended Industrial Metaverse. All these insights from the InterGeo 2022 trade fair will be fed into new project requests and developments within our expertise centre.
